Alexashare has been interviewed by the staff at All Stocks Online and we are now posting the responses to our questions. This email interview was between the ASO staff and Jas, primary owner and developer of Alexashare.
ASO: Can you give us a history of the site?
Jas: Alexa Share was originally built as an improved version of the site Urladex (formally known as Alexadex). One day I was developing a script to read the Alexa API and extract the data, just for fun, when suddenly the whole idea of creating a new Alexadex came to mind. I kept building onto the script until the site was fully completed, and then I launched it (which is rare as I tend to build a lot of projects and eventually lose interest). I seem to remember posting a link to Alexa Share when it had just launched, onto the Alexadex forum. Within a day the site had 30 new members, and the website spread through word of mouth. A lot of people switched over from Alexadex to play on Alexa Share full-time, and some switched back. I have never encouraged anyone to stop playing on Alexadex, competition is a good thing.
ASO: How long have you been live?
Jas: The game has been running just over a year now and has seen great success.
ASO: How many players do you have now, and how many are registered?
Jas: We have over 200 active members, 60% of which check their accounts at least once every 3 days. We have 637 confirmed members (members who have activated their accounts) and 57 uncomfirmed accounts, totalling to 694 accounts in our database.
ASO: Any costs to play, and any prizes on offer?
Jas: Not a penny. There is a premium service that has its own league, as well as giving you the ability to export your portfolio and auto-update it. However most members are happy with a non-premium account. The idea of a prize has been put forward in the past, but it was too difficult to start a competition due to inaccuracies with Alexa’s data. However we do have a hall of fame where players are always competing for stars.
